About

Where It Began

I’m Z—a literary editor, translator, and creative working primarily with independent authors and literary projects.

My path into the literary world began in 2020 as a bookseller through my mobile bookshop, What the Book? Working directly with readers and writers gave me an intimate view of the independent publishing ecosystem: its creativity, its experimentation, and its challenges. Over time, that work expanded into custom bookish objects and tiny book replicas, which are still available through my online shop.

What I Noticed

Those early years allowed me to build lasting relationships with indie authors. One theme surfaced again and again in conversation: the barriers to professional editorial support, particularly the cost of editing in self-publishing spaces. Many writers felt forced to choose between quality and accessibility.

Z | Editor & Translator

I believe that thoughtful editorial work is not a luxury—it’s a foundational part of honoring a text.

How I Work

Reading independent literature is like discovering music off the beaten path. When you step outside traditional routes, you find risk, originality, and voices that don’t always fit neatly into industry expectations. Those voices deserve care. They deserve editors who strengthen a work without flattening its individuality.

That belief led me to draw on my academic background (BA in English language, rhetoric, and writing) and my hands-on publishing experience to offer editing that is rigorous, transparent, and collaborative. I work across genres—including fantasy, horror, romance, poetry, and bilingual narratives—always with close attention to voice, structure, and intention.

Translation

In addition to editorial work, I offer literary translation between English and Spanish. My approach to translation prioritizes meaning, voice, and cultural context rather than direct substitution, allowing a text to live fully in its new language.

An Invitation

Whether you’re seeking editorial support, literary translation, or thoughtfully made bookish objects, my work is guided by care for language and respect for the people behind it.
